About
We hold emotion in our bodies, whether it be pain from our childhoods, a current hurt or burden, a spiritual disconnection, or a belief system that no longer serves us. Sometimes in Pop culture, this effect of the emotions and the mind on the body can be misinterpreted into blaming other people or yourself for experiencing any kind of pain or disease. People think that because your emotions or beliefs affect your body that you are to blame for their existance. But this way of thinking leaves people feeling dis-empowered and bad about themselves. And, I disagree with this approach.
We know that our emotions effect our bodies. A person may get angry at someone and find him/herself suddenly hit with a huge headache, or someone may work in a high stress environment and develop an ulcer. We know and experience the correlation of the emotions and the mind with the body.
What if we begin to think of the pain or illness in our bodies as the body trying to bring to our attention an aspect of ourselves that we have the opportunity to work on and heal? I like to think of it as the body saying, "hey, you need to deal with your lack of self love and you're not getting it, so I am going to cause this pain in your abdomen until I can get your attention and you start to work on this."
In my work, I "listen" to your body and reflect back to you what you are holding in certain areas. I then ask you to feel into what is going on for you there. I have found that once we find what it is that your body is trying to say, that the pain or tension often subsides. All we need to do is recognize what the body is trying to tell us and then go within and let it shift.
The work that I do can begin the process of unraveling the core issues you are facing in your life, or it can completely shift and heal them. It all depends on where you are in the process. Sometimes it is important to let the layers peel back before we get to the seed of the pain you are holding, and sometimes, the layers have been peeled back and we can go in and let it go completely. This process is very interactive and the more open you are, the deeper your results will be.
A little bit about me
My name is Rebecca Knighton. I have been working in the field of Wholistic Healthcare since 1996. I used to spend most of my time up in my head, lost in my thoughts. Influenced by the voices in my head and not able to hear my own inner voice. My body felt tense and was filled with a constant buzzing of anxiety. I wasn't connected to my body at all, and peaceful was a long ways away.
I began meditating when I was a teenager and attended a 10 day retreat when I was 19. After the retreat, my allergies went away completely for over 2 years, I had a sense of smell for the first time that I could remember, and I could actually feel my body. I was peaceful and calm and the world was alive to me. But that state isn't just a magic switch that you flip and it stays there forever, it is a way of life, and being 19, I went back to my life and didn't maintain my meditation practice until later in my life when I realized how vital it is to my entire existance. The practice of moving out of my head and into my body allows me to be present in my life, to listen to and trust my inner guidance, to experience peace and gratitude, and for the beauty in the world to touch me in ways that it otherwise wouldn't.
My hope is that through my work, I can help other people to learn to connect with and listen to their own bodies and inner knowing and increase the clarity, peace, and strength that comes from connecting with that.
