Gratitude

I was at a meeting a few weeks ago and we were doing an exercise where we paired up and told the other person our "story" - the thing we always tell ourselves that limits us. It was a fun exercise. We would tell our story and then switch partners and tell it again in a funny accent and then switch again and tell it while making strange animal sounds - all in an attempt to show ourselves how silly this "story" was. I was sitting there, listening to my different partners tell me their stories. A woman moved into the seat in front of me and began to tell me her "story." As I listened, I began to see so clearly that while she had a lot of talent, her heart was closed in some way. I could see it in her eyes, and I knew that until she opened her heart, she would continue to struggle with lack. I began to think about how that translated into my own life.

The Universe/God/spirit speaks to us through our hearts. I knew that. But on that day, I saw also that it gives to us through our hearts. That was the day I realized that I needed to practice gratitude every day, even on the days when it doesn't come as easily. It's impossible to feel gratitude and close your heart at the same time. There is so much in the world to be grateful for, but how often do we forget? How often do we get stuck in a feeling of lack? How often do we practice gratitude?

I would encourage you to spend a little time each day this week or even this month reflecting on what you are grateful for. Try to feel in in your heart - not just say the words. Notice what changes happen in your life. I would love to hear any stories you'd like to share about your experience.
